An era in the cultural life of Bengal came to end on Monday with the passing away of veteran Rabindra Sangeet exponent Suchitra Mitra. Hundreds of ardent followers today bid adieu to the great singer with songs and tears.
Mitra was taken to Peace Haven as her tearful students sang songs. In the morning,her body was kept at Jorasanko,the ancestral home of Tagore family that now hosts the Rabindra Bharati University campus. From there it was taken to Rabindra Sadan auditorium for the people to pay their tributes. However,people were told not to offer white flowers to the late music exponent since she did not like white flowers that symbolizes death. Politicians and prominent personalities from cultural world lined up to pay their tributes.
