Abhishek launches ‘Ami Banglar Digital Joddha’, TMC looks to recruit ‘content creators, digital amplifiers’ ahead of Bengal polls

The party’s national general secretary and Diamond Harbour MP Abhishek Banerjee on Thursday announced the programme on social media.

He posted, “Bengal, our beloved motherland, is being hounded, humiliated, maligned, and vilified by bohiragoto Bangla-birodhi zamindars (outsiders who are against Bengal) who thrive on lies and propaganda, increasingly in the digital space where the battle now rages.”

“It is upon us to stand up for Bengal’s rights, dignity, and truth, to fight back with clarity and conviction. That’s why I am launching ‘Ami Banglar Digital Joddha’, a people-powered, youth-led digital movement to protect Bengal’s identity, uphold its truth, and carry its message of pride and progress to every corner of India and the world,” he added.

Calling upon Bengal’s youth to join the campaign, Banerjee said: “To every young person who refuses to let Bengal be slandered, this is your clarion call. Join as a Digital Joddha. The TMC’s press note described the initiative as a movement to “unite for Bengal’s digital revolution, protect Bengal’s spirit, and celebrate its creative energy.” It said the party was seeking to reclaim Bengal’s “narrative and identity” from “external political forces” attempting to “distort its story, silence its voice, and question its very existence.”

The statement added, “Political battles are fought not just on the streets or in Parliament, but increasingly in the digital space, where Bangla-Birodhis are active. ‘Ami Banglar Digital Joddha’ is our collective answer. This is Bengal reclaiming its narrative, exposing vindictive, anti-Bengal agendas, and asserting its leadership where it matters most.”

This development comes at a time when the TMC has been doubling down on positioning itself as the party of “Bangla asmita,” or Bengali pride, with Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee frequently invoking the term while protesting the alleged arbitrary detention of Bengali-speaking migrants suspected to be Bangladeshi nationals, and more recently, inaugurating Durga Puja pandals.
