At least 10 persons were injured in alleged clashes between supporters of the Trinamool Congress (TMC) and Indian Secular Front (ISF) at Bhangar in South 24 Parganas district of West Bengal on Friday, police said. Seven persons were arrested in connection with the clashes, they added. Crude bombs were recovered from the area, police said. Even as the TMC alleged that its workers were being targeted and bombs were hurled at them allegedly by ISF supporters, ISF claimed that its workers were attacked by TMC workers in Kochpukur. In Jirangacha, on the other hand, the ruling party alleged that ISF workers allegedly attacked TMC workers, following which a Trinamool worker was hospitalised. According to sources, the alleged incident took place in Baniyara area under North Kashipur Police Station in Bhangar. The Election Commission (EC) has sought an action-taken report from the administration in connection with the incident. Local residents claimed that when Rafiq Khan, a TMC leader, was on his way home along with party workers, a bomb was hurled at them. Tension gripped the area as multiple bombs were thrown, leaving at least 10 persons injured. Shaukat Mollah, TMC MLA from Canning East and an observer for the party in Bhangar, visited the hospital. Mollah told mediapersons, “The ISF is trying to spread new tension in the area.” The ISF did not immediately react to the TMC's allegations.
