Kajal Hindusthani’s ‘inciting speech hurt Patidar women’s sentiments’: Congress leader files complaint

The complaint comes nearly a year after Hindusthani was booked and arrested in Una town of Gir Somnath in April last year for an alleged hate speech leading to riots that was delivered at a Ram Navami procession on March 30, 2023.

Gujarat Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) general secretary Manoj Panara Monday filed a complaint against ‘right-wing’ activist Kajal Shingala alias Kajal Hindusthani for allegedly hurting sentiments of Patidar women in Morbi.

According to the complaint filed at the ‘A’ Division police station of Morbi, Shingala made the alleged remarks at a gathering organised by Shree Gadhakada Patel Mitramandal in Surat on June 6, 2023. Panara said he came across a video of Shingala’s purported speech in which she allegedly said that some “college girls had boyfriends from other faiths and that they had stolen money to purchase cars for their boyfriends”.

However, the Congress leader, who hails from the Patidar community, said no such incident has happened in Morbi and that Hindusthani was merely defaming girls of the community while delivering an “inciting” speech. The video, Panara claimed, has also gone viral on YouTube.

“I have got it verified that no such incident has happened in Morbi. No such incident has been reported in any media. Yet, Kajal Hindusthani is cooking up stories to deliver inciteful speeches to win applause for her and boost her TRPs and publicity. The Patidar community is angry over this,” Panara’s complaint stated urging the police to file a case against Hindusthani.

Hakumatsinh Jadeja, inspector incharge of ‘A’ Division police station, said they will transfer the complaint to the Surat police. “We have received Panara’s application seeking to book Hindusthani. However, the said offence is stated to have occurred in the jurisdiction of Surat police. Therefore, we shall forward this complaint to Surat police,” Jadeja said, adding, “No FIR has been registered by the Morbi police as the complaint attributes facts of the alleged incident to a YouTube video and police will have to ascertain its veracity before taking any action against the person named in the application.”

Talking to The Indian Express, Panara said he has filed the complaint to the Morbi police in his personal capacity. “The speech is insulting and hurtful to the Patidar community at large and the Patidar women in particular. Therefore, being a Patidar myself, I have given a complaint to the police,” said Panara.

The complaint comes nearly a year after Hindusthani was booked and arrested in Una town of Gir Somnath in April last year for an alleged hate speech leading to riots that was delivered at a Ram Navami procession on March 30, 2023. She was granted bail later. Phone calls and text messages to Hindusthani by The Indian Express did not elicit a response.
