The flying squad, constituted by Deputy Commissioner (DC) Gurpreet Kaur Sapra, carried out another raid in Derabassi area on Thursday night, but the team returned empty-handed, again.  The officials involved in the raid said they did not find illegal mining going on in the area.

Speaking to Chandigarh Newsline, Block Level Extension Officer (BLEO) Baljeet Singh said they conducted the raid in Derabassi area, but did not find illegal mining going on anywhere. He also said they are working on the complaints lodged by some local residents of the area.

The residents, however, said they could show the raiding teams where mining was going on and also claimed that the raiding teams did not go to the spots where it was allegedly going on. “We can even show the mining officials that where mining is going even during day. We are doubtful about the seriousness of the administration about stopping illegal mining in our area. Illegal mining goes on unabated in Ghaggar river in the area,” said Dharampal Singh, a Derabassi resident.
