At least five people were killed Wednesday early in the morning in Telangana’s Warangal district after a speeding lorry rammed into an auto-rickshaw.
The accident took place in Yellanda village near Wardhannapet when the villagers were on the Warangal to Khammam route to collect honey from forest areas, the police said.
Circle inspector S Srinivas of Wardhannapet Police told indianexpress.com that three persons including the auto-rickshaw driver died on the spot and two others died after reaching the hospital.
According to him, the accident took place at 7.12 am when a Rajasthan-registered lorry coming from the opposite direction, lost control and crashed into the auto-rickshaw that had six people including the driver.
The police suspect that the lorry driver was driving under the influence of alcohol.
A case has been registered and an investigation is in progress.
