A CBI team recorded the statement of Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) MLC K Kavitha, daughter of Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao, at her Hyderabad residence in connection with the Delhi excise policy case on Sunday. The CBI team took her statement for more than seven hours.

The CBI officers, including a woman officer, arrived at Kavitha’s Banjara Hills residence around 11 am. Kavitha’s legal team had reached her residence before the CBI officers arrived. The BRS – formerly the Telangana Rashtra Samithi – had asked party leaders and workers not to gather outside the house or on the street to protest and had appealed to them to maintain law and order. Security was also strengthened in the area as a precautionary measure.

On December 2, the CBI had issued a notice to the MLC under CrPC Section 160, asking her to join the probe on December 6 in connection with its investigation into alleged corruption in the Delhi government’s now-withdrawn excise policy.

On December 3, Kavitha wrote back to the agency, seeking copies of the complaint in the case. “The requested documents may be provided at the earliest to enable me to acquaint myself and answer appropriately within a reasonable period of time. Date of our meeting can be fixed in Hyderabad after the receipt of the documents,” she wrote. The CBI then sent her an email, saying a copy of the FIR as well as that of the complaint are available on the website.

On December 5, Kavitha informed the CBI that she will not be able to meet the agency’s officials the next day, as originally scheduled, and suggested alternative dates, including December 11.

The CBI wrote back, saying that a team will visit her residence at 11 am on December 11 to record her statement, to which she agreed.
