Blaming irrational selection of beneficiaries covered under the National Food Security Act Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy said his government was forced to spend Rs 5,527 crore on ration for 56 lakh families not covered under Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Ann Yojana (PMGKAY).
CM Jagan Reddy urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to divert unused ration stocks lying with the Central Government to be allocated to the state as compensation, as recommended by NITI Aayog. “Lack of rationality in the selection of beneficiaries under the National Food Security Act is causing grave injustice to the State. Due to this, the state government is giving ration to 56 lakh families who are not covered under the PMGKY programme. It has to bear the burden of around Rs 5,527 crore. In this regard, NITI Aayog has also decided that Andhra Pradesh’s plea is correct and they want to take appropriate action. I request that the central government should allocate the unutilized ration quota to the state,’’ said CM Jagan Reddy in an appeal to the Prime Minister.
The CM, who arrived in New Delhi Friday morning with a list of demands, appealed to PM Mdoi to expedite several issues pending even nine years after thestate bifurcation in June 2014.
