On Tuesday, police also stated that they recovered a gun, 20 cartridges and seven explosives during search operations in sensitive areas of Bishnupur and Thoubal districts. Two people died in Manipur on Tuesday in an exchange of fire at the border of the Kuki-Zomi dominated Churachandpur and Meitei-dominated Bishnupur districts.
According to police, the firing in the area began at around 5am on Tuesday. These deaths come 11 days after the last violent incident in which five people had died in Kamjong district on August 18.
One of the deceased was from the Kuki-Zomi community and he died in the Khoirentak area of Churachandpur district. However, the Churachandpur SP said that as of Tuesday night, it was not clear whether he had died of gunshot or in an explosion. The other deceased, not yet identified, succumbed to his injuries at Shija Hospital in Imphal.
A total of eight people were injured in the Tuesday violence, and they were being treated at private hospitals in Imphal.
