Credit-hungry Opposition harmed country, we serve you as a sevak, says PM Modi

PTI Visiting Assam on the first day of Rongali Bihu, Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched projects worth more than Rs 14,000 crore, including the first AIIMS in the Northeastern region in Guwahati on Friday.
Modi had a packed itinerary during his visit to Guwahati, beginning with inaugurating a slew of medical projects, including the newly built AIIMS campus that has a capacity of 750 beds and 100 MBBS seats per session. Among the other projects he inaugurated were three new medical colleges— in Kokrajhar, Nagaon and Nalbari. He also laid the foundation stone for the Assam Advanced Healthcare Innovation Institute — a joint venture between the Assam government and IIT Guwahati for a 350-bed superspeciality hospital and a medical research centre — and ceremonially launched the distribution of 1.1 crore Ayushman Bharat-PMJAY cards for beneficiaries in the state. Later, he attended the closing ceremony of the Platinum Jubilee celebrations of the Gauhati High Court and in the evening he attended a mega-Bihu event at Sarusajai event with more than 11,000 artistes performing Bihu dance together.
Speaking at the inauguration of AIIMS Guwahati, taking a dig at the Opposition, Modi claimed that a “new illness” has emerged in the country. “Nowadays, we are getting to see a new illness. Wherever I go in the country and talk about the development that has happened in the last nine years, some people get very distressed. This is a new illness. They object that for they have also ruled the country for decades, so why don’t they get credit. People hungry for credit and consumed by thoughts of ruling the people have done a lot of harm to the country. The people are a form of Janardhan, a form of Ishwar. The earlier ones were hungry for credit, that’s why the Northeast seemed remote to them… We keep serving you with a sense of dedication, with the thought of being your sevak. That’s why the Northeast never seems remote and the sense of belonging is never less either,” he said.
He claimed that the development of medical infrastructure in the region has previously been affected by “nepotism” and “corruption”.
“For decades, the Northeast was struggling with some other challenges. When there is politics of nepotism, regionalism, corruption and instability in any sector, it becomes impossible to progress. And this was happening in our healthcare system. In Delhi, the AIIMS was made in the 1950s. People from all corners of the country would seek treatment in AIIMS. But for decades, no one thought that other parts of the country should also have AIIMS. It was during Atal ji’s government that efforts were being made in this direction for the first time. But after his tenure ended, it all stopped. Even in the AIIMS that were opened, the facilities were lacking. We removed all the shortcomings after 2014. In the last few years, we have started work on 15 new AIIMS. In most of these, treatment and teaching have both started,” he said.
Later, while speaking at the Gauhati High Court event, Modi advocated the use of technology in justice delivery, including the use of AI. “We should also try to increase efforts to improve the ease of justice for the common citizen through AI,” he said.
Attending the Bihu event in the evening, Modi said the government is working to connect the Northeast culturally, digitally and physically with the rest of the country.
At Sarusajai stadium too, he flagged off multiple projects: a bridge connecting Palashbari and Sualkuchi on the Brahmaputra, a beautification project for Rang Ghar — an Ahom-era pavilion — a methanol project and five railway projects.
