More than 50 applicants for each general nursery seat

Sale of forms closes, admission process to continue till March, schools favour online application.

The Indian Institute of Management receives applications from approximately 61 candidates per seat annually and the Indian Institute of Technology has 57 applying for each seat. The applications at these premier institutes, however, come in from across the country.

But for nursery admission in city schools, close to 53 candidates apply for each seat from Delhi alone.

On the last day of sale of forms,Springdales-Pusa Road said it gave out approximately 5,500 forms in the general category. The school has 102 general seats, taking the ratio to 53:1.

The school also has 25 applicants for each EWS seat.

Like every day since the beginning of sale of forms this year,on Monday also parents lined up to buy and submit forms from early morning.

“May be we will take the admission procedure online from next year, because we face crowd management problems this year,” said principal Ameeta Wattal. She said the school is situated on a busy crossing and the crowd “can lead to law and order problems also”.

Bluebells International School had 48 applicants per seat, after the close of the sale of forms, with 82 general seats. Principal Suman Kumar said the school took the admissions online as it is “smoother”. Around 15 students in the EWS category will be contesting for each seat.

As schools in Delhi closed sale of admission forms after 16 days, many principals believe that keeping the admission process online helps both parents and schools. Rekha Bakshi from Vasant Valley School said online admissions were “much easier”. The school gives out forms for free and has had online admissions since the point system was introduced. “I don’t have any long queues outside my school — they are inconvenient both for us and the parents,” Bakshi said.
