A 22-year-old woman and her relative were murdered, allegedly by the former’s father and brother, over “suspicion” that they were in a relationship, said police.
The duo — Mohd. Shahid (46) and his son Kudush (20) — were arrested, said police. The incident took place in Northeast Delhi on Tuesday.
Police sources said the accused allegedly killed the relative, Danish, with a fruit knife before moving on to the woman, Shaina. “After killing both of them, Kudush called the Police Control Room and admitted to having killed his sister and uncle,” said DCP (Northeast) Joy Tirkey.
The bodies bore deep incision wounds on their necks, while the woman’s limbs were tied up using a chunni and a lungi.
DCP Tirkey said the family discovered the relationship three-four days ago and tried to break it off. When it didn’t work, they decided to allegedly kill them.
A senior police officer said other family members fled the spot when the accused allegedly slit the victims’ throats. The accused men tied up Shaina and hid the body in a corner of a room, the officer said.
Police said the accused worked as fruit vendors — Kudush had finished a course on graphic designing and was helping his father run his fruit stall. The two belonged to a family of 10. Shaina, who was unmarried, was the second child and Kudush the fourth of six siblings.
Danish also worked as a fruit vendor.
