An official of the Delhi Integrated Multi-Modal Transit System Ltd (DIMTS) sustained injuries after a stray Chinese kite string got tangled around her neck, leaving a deep cut. The incident took place near Shastri Park flyover around 6.30 pm on Tuesday. The official, Vinky Bharadwaj (36), was going to her home in Vasundhara, Ghaziabad, from office on her scooter at the time. Police said she fell off the two-wheeler and suffered a 12-cm-long cut on her neck. Bharadwaj is undergoing treatment at Max Super Speciality Hospital in Vaishali. Her family said she works as an assistant manager at DIMTS. According to police, eyewitnesses said she tried to remove the string, but it got entangled. She managed to move her two-wheeler to a corner but fell on the side due to the injuries. Police further said that her colleagues were driving on the same flyover and spotted her. In the FIR, police stated that she was taken to Sant Parmanand Hospital where an MLC was prepared. “Cut injury at the interior aspect of the neck near thyroid area = 12 cm by manjha of kite,” reads the FIR. Officials said the injury was such that doctors referred her to Max Hospital immediately, where she underwent surgery on Wednesday. Her family said she had to get at least 16-18 stitches. Her husband, Sumit Chaudhary, who works at a private firm in Faridabad, said, “I was travelling in the Metro when I received a call from her colleagues about the accident. I panicked and rushed to the hospital. Her clothes were covered in blood, and she had a deep cut on her neck. It seemed as if someone had slit her neck. She is better now. She had a complex surgery. I was very scared. It’s frustrating that a manjha did this to her. Luckily, she survived.” Police said they have registered a case under sections of causing hurt by act endangering life and road accident. DCP (Northeast) Joy Tirkey said, “The manjha must have been lying there and got tangled around the woman’s neck due to the wind. We will conduct searches to trace the persons involved. The woman was severely injured and taken to the hospital. Since she is unfit for a statement, a case has been registered on the statement of her husband and staff present there. We will take appropriate action in the case.”
