The police found that the car was registered in Tomer’s name, and on October 27, the police traced both the vehicle and its driver.Four days after an unidentified woman was killed in a hit-and-run accident near Yamuna Bridge in Delhi, the police said on Wednesday that the man allegedly driving the vehicle was arrested after the car was traced by reviewing CCTV footage.
The police identified the accused as Khusipal Tomer, 46, a client service manager at an advertising agency in Daryaganj. Tomer was staying on rent at the MAMC Campus and was headed to his native place at Gautam Buddha Nagar when the accident occurred, the police added.
According to police, around 2.30 pm on October 25, a woman was hit by a vehicle in the I P Estate area. She was rushed to Lok Nayak Hospital, where doctors declared her dead. There were no eyewitnesses at the scene. The police have yet to identify the victim, but she has a tattoo on her arm that they suspect may be her name. Officials are conducting enquiries in the area to ascertain her identity.
A case under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) was registered at the I P Estate police station, and an investigation team under the supervision of Sulekha Jagarwar, Assistant Commissioner of Police, Kamla Market, began its probe using CCTV footage from multiple points along the Yamuna Bridge stretch.
Over 40–50 vehicles were examined, following which the investigation team zeroed in on a white Hyundai i20 that was seen fleeing toward Sachivalaya Bhawan shortly after the incident. CCTV footage near Kishan Ghat revealed the vehicle’s registration number.
The police found that the car was registered in Tomer’s name, and on October 27, the police traced both the vehicle and its driver. During interrogation, Tomer allegedly confessed to driving the car at the time of the accident and admitted that he fled the scene in panic.
