Days after the Congress threatened to launch a protest over power cuts in the city, the Opposition BJP slammed power and water policies of the AAP-led Delhi government. The party now claims that it will launch a door-to-door campaign if power tariffs are not rationalised for all sets of consumers in the capital.
Delhi BJP President Vijay Goel on Sunday said confusion had prevailed over power and water bills and erratic power supply. “The AAP government has created a crisis of governance in Delhi, affecting the common people. The BJP will soon launch a ‘Bijli Andolan’ if corrective measures are not taken immediately,” Goel said.
According to the BJP, the AAP government has failed to bring any clarity on issue of power. “There is no step to repair meters that run fast. The chief minister has shifted the onus of power cuts on the power companies, even as citizens suffer from long and unscheduled power cuts. Those consuming above 400 units per month will continue to pay high tariff. Taxpayers money is being given to power companies in the name of tariff,” Goel said.
Last week, Goel’s counterpart in the Congress, Arvinder Singh Lovely, had written to Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, demanding better power supply. Lovely had also warned of an agitation on the streets.
Goel also alleged that the chief minister and his council of ministers had forced the administration to a halt.
“There is complete confusion and chaos in every sphere of governance. Instead of utilising skills of officials, they are being subjected to humiliation and arbitrary orders. This has led to a grave crisis in governance,” Goel said. He added that the AAP government should focus on administration and not on political gimmickry.
