Waterlogged roads, uprooted trees, traffic snarls: heavy overnight rain causes havoc in Delhi
Delhi weather alerts: Commuters had to wade through flooded streets, and severe traffic congestion was reported in several areas of Delhi following the heavy rain.

Several areas of Delhi were waterlogged Sunday morning following overnight thunderstorms and heavy rain. Moti Bagh, Minto Road, Delhi Cantonment, and Deen Dayal Upadhyay Marg were among the worst-hit areas.
Early visuals showed inundation near the Hanuman Temple in Connaught Place and the Shivaji Metro station. In ITO, commuters were seen wading through flooded roads during the morning rush.
As powerful winds swept through the city before the rains began, several trees were uprooted across central Delhi. In one such visual from Akbar Road, several trees were seen uprooted at a single spot. In Delhi Cantonment, a bus and a car were reportedly submerged in an inundated underpass. Near India Gate, a streetlight pole collapsed on the road in the powerful winds.
The Public Works Department (PWD) received around 45 calls related to waterlogging. There was flooding in ITO, Pragati Maidan Tunnel, Azadpur, Mukarba Chowk and underpasses like Dwarka and Minto Road Bridge, and officials said all the areas have been cleared of waterlogging. Officials also stated that the PWD has completed 50 per cent of the desilting work.
Meanwhile, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) said it received three complaints of trees falling and no complaints of waterlogging.
Traffic congestion followed in the morning, with major snarls reported at Dhaula Kuan. The Delhi Police issued traffic advisories on the social media platform X, announcing alternative routes for areas where waterlogging was leading to road blockages. Severe congestion was reported at the Zakhira underpass and Azad Market underpass on both carriageways leading to Pratap Nagar. Traffic was also affected along Rohtak Road in both directions.
Waterlogging on the road leading to Terminal 3 of the Indira Gandhi International Airport caused inconvenience to early morning travellers. Flight operations were also briefly impacted. In a post at 3.59 am on X, IndiGo Airlines had informed passengers of temporary disruptions due to adverse weather. By 6 am, the airline confirmed that operations had resumed.
