The Munak Canal breach that severely impacted the water supply to Dwarka and other parts of South West Delhi, and led to flooding in the Bawana area has been fixed, the Delhi government has said, adding that the water supply to Dwarka will be restored on Saturday night. Delhi Water Minister Atishi said on Saturday that the embankment was repaired on Friday night and that the water from Haryana, which will go to the Dwarka water treatment plant, has been released. “Haryana has released water from Kakroi head at 10:30 am. This water will reach Delhi by 1:30-2:00 pm. Dwarka water treatment plant will start functioning from 4 pm. Water supply will resume in Dwarka from tonight,” Atishi said in a post on X. Delhi has been reeling under water shortage for at least two months, with the Delhi government accusing the Haryana government of not releasing water in the summer months. However, the Haryana government has denied the allegation and said it has been releasing adequate water as per the agreement with the Delhi government While the supply issues were starting to get resolved with the monsoon occurring throughout north India over the past few weeks, the breach in the Munak Canal forced the Dwarka plan shut. The breach was first reported in a sub-branch of the canal late on Wednesday.
