Delhi Legislative Assembly Speaker Ram Niwas Goel Monday said water samples brought in the House by the BJP MLAs during the last session were not from the Yamuna, as per reports prepared by the Delhi Jal Board (DJB) and Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR). He referred to the two reports submitted by the DJB and CSIR to the privileges committee for inquiry, and asked it to submit a report in a month. The BJP MLAs including the Leader of Opposition (LOP) Ramvir Singh Bidhuri protested against the decisions of the Speaker, to which he asked him to present his representation and whatever he wanted to say to the privileges committee. The Speaker also said the water samples were contaminated with “some black substances and the BJP MLAs willingly brought it to create sensation” in the House. Claiming that the Yamuna water is polluted, BJP MLAs on January 18 brought two bottles of samples, which were black in colour, and claimed that the AAP-led government did nothing to clean the river. The Speaker then sent the samples to the DJB to get it tested chemically. He also directed the DJB to collect water from the different parts of the Yamuna and test. He had said that if the water was found contaminated with other substances, he would end the membership of BJP legislators. LoP Bidhuri moved a no-confidence motion under Rule 251 against the Delhi government on the second day of the budget session. The Speaker said he will check the notice whether it is as per rules, and then discuss it after the budget is presented.
