Wardless MCD councillors campaign in neighbouring areas

Shashi Talwar,sitting candidate from Rajouri Garden said Arya has started visiting the ward,adding “If he is campaigning in my ward then it means he has been given some signal from the party high command”.

Similarly,Deputy Mayor Anil Sharma has been doing the rounds of Nanakpura ward,where Dr Anita Gupta is the sitting councillor.

“My seat has been reserved for women and I wish to fight polls from Nanakpura as I reside in the area,” Anil Sharma told Newsline.

According to party sources,Gupta has always opposed Sharma’s interference in matters concerning her ward.

Others too are facing the same fight on their turf,but refused to come on record.

“We will abide by the party decision on ticket distribution in the municipal polls,” said a

Councillor.

However,there are some who have mutually agreed to exchange seats and have started campaigning in these wards.

Harish Awasthi,Councillor from Rithala has swapped his seat with Nirmala Thakur,who is a sitting Councillor in the neighbouring ward.

“Her seat is now in general category,and mine is a reserved seat. So,we decided to switch seats,” said Awasthi.

Similarly,BJP Councillors Prawesh Wahi and Anju Jain have decided to start campaigning in each others wards for the same reason.

Vijendra Gupta,Delhi BJP Chief said he was aware of the activities but,“The party will take the final call on the tickets”.
