Officials at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport on September 1 detected US currency notes worth Rs 2.52 crore concealed in bedsheets in the luggage of an Uzbek national travelling to Dubai, the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) said Friday.

The passenger identified as Mirjalol Juraev could not provide valid documents for the currency and the accused was handed over to customs for further probe, said Apoorv Pandey, Assistant Inspector General (CISF).

Pandey said that around 2.30 am the CISF personnel deployed on pre-embarkation security checks of the International Security Hold area of Terminal 3 of IGI Airport when officials noticed double concealment of currency notes in a bag.

“On further probe, officials noticed newly packed bedsheets in the bag and when opened, saw US dollars worth Rs 2.52 crore ingeniously concealed inside bedsheets,” said the officer, adding that the currency notes and bedsheets were made of organic material making it difficult to detect them through machines.
