Protect the Capital by using green crackers only, said Delhi CM Rekha Gupta on Sunday as she extended the greetings to the people of the city on the occasion of Diwali. She encouraged people to celebrate the festival “in traditional ways by lighting diyas (lamps), making rangoli, and sharing sweets to spread joy and prosperity,” read a statement from the CM’s office.
In her message, the CM said that Diwali, the festival of light, prosperity, and togetherness, should be celebrated in an atmosphere of peace and harmony. “Diwali is not merely a festival of lamps, but one that brings new light and fresh hope into our lives. May this festival of illumination bring new energy, immense happiness, and prosperity to you and your family. Diwali symbolises positivity, unity, and our shared aspirations for the future. It stands for the triumph of light over darkness, truth over falsehood, and hope over despair,” the statement from her office quoted the CM as saying.
Her appeal on the green crackers comes days after the Supreme Court allowed the bursting of the green firecrackers on Diwali.
The CM added, “My government is serving Delhi with utmost honesty and commitment. We have prioritised the issues that directly affect the lives of our citizens. By addressing the shortcomings of earlier schemes, we have ensured that pensions and aid reach the rightful beneficiaries, especially the poor and elderly. We are also taking continuous steps to empower our mothers and sisters. Our government is expediting long-delayed flyover and infrastructure projects, while also introducing new initiatives in education and sports.”
The Chief Minister further said that one of the government’s foremost pledges is to make the River Yamuna clean and pollution-free. “Work is underway on a war footing, and we are confident that soon the Yamuna will regain the pristine form it deserves.” She also said that serious efforts are being made to ensure a round-the-clock supply of clean drinking water across Delhi. “It is our firm commitment that very soon every household in Delhi will have access to piped water.”
