The arrangements for the auto mahasabha at Burari on Friday were made by the Transport department of the Delhi government.
After two auto unions — All Delhi Auto Taxi Transporters Congress Union and Delhi Autorickshaw Sangh — boycotted the rally, calling it political, the Transport department stepped in to make the arrangements for the rally.
The organisers said the expenses incurred on chairs, water, sound system and railings were taken care of by the Transport department.
Nagendar Sharma, media advisor to Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, confirmed that the Transport department had organised the mahasabha. Kishan Verma, president of All Delhi Auto Taxi Transporters Congress Union, said his union boycotted the rally as it was “political”. “There were more AAP supporters in the rally than auto drivers. The announcements made by the chief minister will not sort any problems that drivers face,” Verma said.
Rajendra Soni, general secretary of Delhi Autorickshaw Sangh said, “So far, no written order has been given to traffic police. So they will continue to seize our vehicles,” he said.
