After a four-day search, Gurgaon police on Thursday recovered the partially decomposed body of a 26-year-old man, who was allegedly tied to a tree along with a friend and beaten mercilessly with sticks and iron rods by around 12 men. They were allegedly beaten for nine hours.
While 26-year-old Naved died, his friend, Salim, managed to escape.
On August 24, Salim reached the Rajendra Park police station along with Naved’s family members and lodged a complaint.
The police found Naved’s body from a canal near the Gurgaon-Jhajjar border. He belonged to Baghpat in Uttar Pradesh. Salim and he had rented a house in Molahera village, where they ran a washing machine repair shop.
The police said the victims had repaired a washing machine at the house of the main accused, for which they took Rs 1,200 from his wife.
The machine continued to give problems after the repair, the police added.
“The main accused Jitender, along with other men, allegedly called the victims to Chandu village, tied them to a tree and beat them up brutally. Most of the accused were allegedly inebriated,” said a police officer.
“Jitender was arrested on August 25 and taken into three days’ police remand. Naved’s body was recovered with the help of divers,” said Rajesh Chechi, Assistant Commissioner of Police (Crime). A hunt is on for the other accused.
