Two employees of a jewellery shop were robbed of jewellery worth Rs 1.2 crore at gunpoint in South Delhi’s Panchsheel Park around 4.30 pm on Wednesday, police said, adding that the victims were on a bike and carried a bag with 181 pieces of diamond and gold jewellery.
The accused came on a scooter, allegedly pointed a pistol at the victims and snatched their bag, said police. No arrest has been made yet. Police are questioning the employees and other witnesses.
The complainant works as a salesman for a jeweller in Karol Bagh. He and his colleague left the shop for Kalkaji market in the afternoon with the jewellery, police said.
Chandan Chowdhary, DCP (South), said, “They went to Kalkaji market and met a couple of jewellers but none of them purchased anything. The men headed to Malviya Nagar to meet a few more shopkeepers. While they were near Panchsheel Park foot-overbridge, two men waylaid them. One of the accused pointed a pistol at the pillion rider while the other took out a bottle and tried to spray some liquid. The accused managed to snatch the bag and rode off towards the IIT traffic signal.”
A PCR call was made by the victims at 4.37 pm and a case under sections of robbery, and attempted armed robbery, and the Arms Act has been registered at Hauz Khas police station.
Police said the investigation of the case is under progress.
