The roads leading to the Buddh International Circuit were choked on Sunday as all vehicles tried to drive towards the Indian Grand Prix venue. The traffic snarl lasted for over two hours, resulting in many spectators reaching the circuit late and a few even missing out on the race.
Parshuram Anand, who left his South Delhi home in Defence Colony at noon, said,The race was scheduled to start at 3 pm,so I left three hours early. But I was caught in a jam as soon as I reached Noida Film City. Traffic moved very slowly until the Yamuna Expressway. We reached by 3.30 pm,by the time the race had already started.
Police said they had made all possible arrangements, but the rush was unavoidable. A senior traffic official said,We had stationed extra police personnel at every crossing on the route and were trying to streamline traffic. Diversions were also not possible as there are limited roads to reach the venue. By the afternoon, there were thousands of cars on the roads, and since there were check points at various places,it made the situation worse.
Police said the major choke points were,Film City,Mahamaya flyover, ticket check points on Greater Noida Expressway and Yamuna Expressway intersection.
A few visitors also complained against the long walk from the parking lot to the entry gates. There were so many people waiting for the Park and Ride buses,so we had to walk. By the time we entered the circuit the race was close to finishing, said Sunaina Khan.
