An armed assailant looted Rs 80 lakh in cash from a trader near North Delhi’s Fateh Puri Monday evening. The robbery took place around 7.40 pm when the victim was returning from work with the cash bag, said police.
The victim is an Angadia trader. The Angadia system is a traditional parallel banking system in the country where traders send cash generally from one state to another through a person called an Angadia, which stands for courier.
As per the FIR, the victim, who works as a manager at a money-lending business, had collected the cash from another firm and was heading home when he was intercepted by an unknown man.
“He pointed a gun at me and told me to hand over the bag or else he’ll shoot me. When I protested, the man pointed the pistol towards the floor and fired. He then grabbed my bag and fled,” wrote the victim in his complaint, as per the FIR. Police have begun reviewing CCTV footage from the area to identify the suspect. CCTV footage from one camera showed a man in a black T-shirt, cap, and mask approaching the victim from behind with a pistol trained towards him. The victim pleads with the culprit to let the bag go when he shoots a bullet at the ground.
A complaint was lodged at Lahori Gate Police Station. The case was registered under BNS sections 309(4) and 311, along with Section 27 of the Arms Act. An investigation was initiated with further inquiries being carried out, said police.
