Three people were buried alive in Munirka Tuesday night when a dumper truck carrying tonnes of wet mud lost control and emptied its contents on their vehicle.

The incident took place near IIT Delhi, when the driver of the truck lost control of the vehicle. As he tried to bring the truck to a stop, the mud fell on a Maruti Esteem on the same road, burying the vehicle completely.

“The truck was trying to avoid running into anything; it eventually flipped and landed on its side,” said Assistant Commissioner of Police Somendar Pol.

The victims were identified as Rajesh Suri, the owner of a printing business, and his associates Rupesh Mehta and Bablu Mehta. All three were residents of Govindpuri, said the police.

Rajesh, who was driving the car, was on his way back home from Noida, said the police.

They were rushed to AIIMS trauma centre, where they were declared dead, the police official added.
