Teenaged ragpicker dies in rail mishap,another hurt

A teenagad ragpicker was killed and another injured when they were hit by a moving train near the Shivaji Railway Station on Wednesday morning.

A teenagad ragpicker was killed and another injured when they were hit by a moving train near the Shivaji Railway Station on Wednesday morning.

According to the police,the victims were collecting plastic bottles from the railway tracks when an oncoming train ran into them.

Speaking on the incident,a police officer said,“The incident occurred when a train halted on one of the tracks. In the meantime,another train arrived on the parallel track,leaving the victims trapped. There was very less space to move.”

Passersby informed the control room about the accident around 10.30 am,following which a team of police officers rushed to the spot. “The two were taken to the Ram Manohar Lohia hospital,but the boy could not be saved. He was declared brought dead,” the officer said.

The police have been unable to record statements or identify the victims because the condition of the second ragpicker is also critical.
