With dengue cases in the city on a rise, schools students will now have “at least one period every week for dengue awareness for every class”. The CBSE has asked all schools across the NCR to play an “effective” role in controlling the disease.

Each school will have a “nodal teacher” to organise various activities in the anti-vector campaign. The extent of participation of students in the campaign will be used by teachers to grade them in extra-curricular activities.

“Schools can organise talks by entomologists and public health specialists on the disease. Students can be encouraged to undertake projects on dengue or mosquito control as part of the study,” said a CBSE official.

Schools across the city have already advised all students to wear full-sleeve shirts and girl students to wear slacks or trousers instead of skirts.

“Each student should be tasked with identifying four to five breeding sites like coolers, abandoned plastic cups, uncovered water tanks and flower pots in schools, their homes and public places,” said the official.

“Each school will forward a report every fortnight. Dengue cases are expected to rise in September-October when Games are to be conducted. Schools have to meet this challenge.”

Usha Ram,principal of Laxman Public School in Hauz Khas, said,“We already have a students group that spreads awareness about this disease. We have a full-time doctor in our school.”
