Supplier of illegal weapons arrested at Anand Vihar ISBT

A supplier of illegal weapons was arrested at Anand Vihar ISBT on October 18,the Delhi Police Special Cell said on Tuesday.

A supplier of illegal weapons was arrested at Anand Vihar ISBT on October 18,the Delhi Police Special Cell said on Tuesday. The man,Om Singh (55),supplied weapons to criminals in Delhi and NCR,police said.

On October 18,police received information that Singh,a native of Meerut,was heading to the Anand Vihar ISBT with illegal weapons. Singh was apprehended and two country-made weapons recovered from him.

Police found his illegal arms factory in his native village in Kharkhauda,Meerut district,UP. Six firearms and raw material and equipment required for their manufacture (iron chisels,cutters,hammers,etc) were recovered.

On questioning,Singh told police that he learnt the technique of manufacturing ammunition from his uncle and that he had been in the business since 1980. He said he had been arrested thrice for his involvement in supplying illegal weapons in UP.

They said he used to charge Rs 2,000 per piece for a country-made pistol to be supplied to other towns and Rs 1,500 if the buyer was near his native place.

“Singh bought raw material for weapons from iron-waste markets of Ghaziabad,Meerut and other cities of Uttar Pradesh,” Deputy Commissioner of Police (Special Cell) Sanjeev Kumar Yadav said.

Singh said he mainly supplied weapons to criminals from Hapur,Ghaziabad,Meerut,Baghpat,Muzaffarnagar in Uttar Pradesh,Delhi,Haryana and Punjab.
