Student brandishes ‘gun’ during campaigning for DUSU polls; it’s a lighter, says KMC principal
Speaking to The Indian Express, Dinesh Khattar, Principal of Kirori Mal college said “The gun-like article in the student’s hands has been identified as a lighter and is currently in the custody of our proctorial board. We will further investigate the issue and strict action will be taken against the student”.

Amid the campaigning for the Delhi University Student Union Elections slated to be held on September 22, a video surfaced showing a student holding a gun-like object in DU’s Kirori Mal college Saturday afternoon.
Speaking to The Indian Express, Dinesh Khattar, Principal of Kirori Mal college said “The gun-like article in the student’s hands has been identified as a lighter and is currently in the custody of our proctorial board. We will further investigate the issue and strict action will be taken against the student”.
Officials at the college said he is a third year student at Kirori Mal College.
Meanwhile, Delhi Police claimed that no complaint in written has been received against the individual.
On Saturday evening, All Indian Students Association (AISA) put out a statement which said: “Despite the public display of arms, neither the college security, nor the Delhi police took cognizance of this. The person with a gun in his hand was not removed from the university premises, neither was any legal action initiated against him.”
The statement accused members of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP)for these actions and said: “Who is the DU administration protecting? Is this why the Delhi Police is completely absent from campus, so as to give a free reign to ABVP… so that the ABVP can intimidate, assault and threaten students and political activists”.
Denying the allegations by AISA, ABVP’s National Media Convenor Ashutosh Singh said: “ The student in that video does not belong to ABVP. ABVP is always with the students and fights for issues which concern the students of this university. AISA does not have a strong agenda so the only way they are going about this by putting fake allegations onto us”.
