Two groups of men pelted stones, glass bottles and bricks at each other as the fallout of a road rage incident at Badarpur in Southeast Delhi, said the police Monday. The fight started over two bikes “touching” each other while passing the road Sunday night, according to the police.

In one of the videos of the incident from the Gautampuri area uploaded online, men are seen chasing each other and pelting stones. They are also seen hurling abuses at each other. Residents had to close windows and doors to escape the flying stones.

The police said they identified six of the accused. They registered a case under Indian Penal Code (IPC) sections of rioting and assault and deployed teams in the area to maintain law and order.

As per the police, the control room received a call about the incident around 10.30 am. The caller, Ranjit, 42, alleged that men with swords and knives attacked local residents.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Southeast) Rajesh Deo said they immediately sent several teams to the spot and met with the caller.

“Ranjit said the fight had been going on since last night. One of his nieces went missing and they asked neighbours to help them. In the meantime, two bikers fought over their bikes touching each other. They started fighting around 11 pm last night, and Ranjit’s two nephews — Rahul, 24, and Ritik, 22 — got injured,” said the DCP.

On Monday morning, the two groups again fought over the same issue.

Another woman, from the second group, also sustained injuries, said the police. The injured women were sent to AIIMS for treatment.
