The Delhi Metro now has a task that goes beyond ferrying passengers across the city. According to the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC),10 stations on the Central Secretariat-Qutab line would soon showcase the rich heritage of the city through artwork and information on its history and culture. The underground line between Central Secretariat and Qutab Metro station passes through areas that abound with historical monuments and world heritage sites, a DMRC official said, adding that they would find a worthy reflection on artwork and panels kept at each of the stations. Information regarding nearby historical monuments will be displayed through panels mounted on the station walls, he further said. The DMRC has collaborated with the Indian National Trust For Art and Cultural Heritage (INTACH) for the purpose. The official said the 10 Metro stations would have about 40 panels displaying information on monuments and places of tourist interest. However, while they would be installed at the Qutab station this month, the other Metro stations on the list would have to wait for two to three months. Some of the monuments and historical sites to be showcased at the Metro stations are India Gate,Lodhi Garden,Safdarjung Tomb,Hauz Khas Complex,Bijay Mandal,Siri Fort Wall and Qila Rai Pithora. The Central Secretariat-Qutab Metro line is now scheduled to become operational by the end of August. The stations that would figure on the new Metro line are Udyog Bhawan,Race Course,Jor Bagh,INA,AIIMS,Green Park,Hauz Khas,Malviya Nagar and Saket.
