With their celebrity campaigners backing out,Delhi BJP is falling back on the volunteers who had logged onto L K Advanis website. These volunteers would be doing the rounds of malls and other markets to convince weekend shoppers to vote for the BJP.
Nearly 6,500 persons had registered themselves on Advanis portal. Each constituency has been provided with the list of volunteers living in their area. Teams of 10 to 20 volunteers will fan out to each mall or
market.
A sizeable number of voters are confused till the eleventh hour. A last-minute motivation can go a long way in convincing them, said Virender Sachdeva, the BJP leader who is coordinating for East Delhi. The malls include East Delhis V3S,EDM,PVR Saket,GK M-block market among others.
Each volunteer should enlist 10 people he can influence. These should in turn convince their friends and acquaintances, said Delhi BJP leader Sanjay Kaul. The volunteers had a brainstorming session at Delhi BJP office.
The BJP is worried that a low-voter turnout might hit them the hardest. We have to convince the voters to vote for the BJP,but more importantly we have to make sure that they vote, said Anil Zutsi, regional sales director of Portwise,a Singapore-based firm.
The volunteers had earlier participated in Advani at Campus programme,in which they had taken powerpoint presentations on the BJP to university campuses to convince students. The project, however, could not complete the designated target of 5,600 programmes as the universities closed for exams. To complete their schedule, the BJP leaders localised the programme, taking it to smaller institutes.
