Congress MP Shashi Tharoor, through his counsel, Tuesday urged a Delhi court to direct the Delhi Police to bring on record various tweets made by his wife Sunanda Pushkar, who was found dead inside a hotel room in January 2014.

Tharoor’s counsel, Vikas Pahwa, told court that Pushkar’s Twitter account was important to understand her state of mind before her death. He said that her tweets were important to the case as “they paint a different picture to what the police have been alleging”.

Special Judge Ajay Kumar Kuhar reserved the order for December 12. Pahwa said: “They (police) seized three Blackberry phones of the deceased… sent it to CFSL and asked for data from WhatsApp, Twitter, call logs… They have picked and chosen the data they want to use”.

Police, however, opposed the application. “It is vague application. This is a serious effort to not allow the trial in this case,” said senior public prosecutor Atul Srivastava, appearing for Delhi Police.
