The Student Federation of India (SFI) Monday condemned what it called the misconduct of the entrance examination for PhD Sociology course at Delhi’s South Asian University (SAU) and demanded the administration’s accountability towards students. South Asian University held its entrance examination for Sociology on April 30. The university has introduced two modes of intake starting this year: one based on direct mode, and the second through an entrance exam. W South Asian Universityhile the interview list of shortlisted candidates who applied via direct mode was published, the university withheld the results of entrance exam-based admissions. SAU has released a notification announcing dates for re-conducting the entrance exam. “The questions were ridiculously easy. There’s no way to filter out candidates based on this exam,” a student said after the exam. The students’ body said in a statement, “Students had to bear the high cost of travel expenses to reach their entrance exam centre. They had also paid a sum of 800 Rs/- as a registration fee. Asking students all over South Asia to appear for the exam once again is an extreme act of negligence”. “SFI SAU condemns the administration’s misconduct in holding the examinations. Making students suffer as a consequence of administrative inefficiency is highly condemnable.” The demands of the students include the release of a provisional rank list of candidates and the institution of an application process based on merit, the deposit of the registration fee collected from all candidates, as well as the release of a separate list and constitute an alternate process, preferably via interview instead of conducting home-based exams for non-Indian applicants.
