Two groups got into a scuffle near a mosque in Southeast Delhi’s Kalindi Kunj while the Ram Temple consecration ceremony was underway in Ayodhya on Monday. The Delhi Police said they have detained seven people involved in the clash and and seized at least nine bikes.

Police maintained that the clash was “minor” and nobody was hurt.

The incident took place around 4-5 pm. A group of bikers, carrying saffron flags, held a bike rally in Khadda Colony during the day. A purported video shows them passing through a lane and chanting ‘Jai Shri Ram’. However, later during the rally, the men allegedly reached a mosque where they were stopped.

Locals said a fight broke out as many of them didn’t want the rally to be held in front of the mosque. Soon, police were called and the bikers fled the scene; many left their bikes behind.

Another video of the incident shows locals gathering in the lane and calling police to the spot. There are bikes on the road. While locals alleged the men were carrying weapons, police denied the claims.

DCP (Southeast) Rajesh Deo said it was a minor scuffle. “A video is circulating in which some bikers are seen creating a ruckus. The incident took place at 4.30 pm when some bikers were in Khadda Colony. At that time, some people had gathered near a masjid and objected to this. A minor scuffle took place and some bikers ran away, leaving their bikes behind. Nobody was injured and we didn’t receive a complaint. However, based on a daily diary entry, an FIR was registered.”
Police said the FIR is against unknown persons.

“A peace committee meeting was held in the area. The situation is normal in the locality,” added Deo.
