school notes: National awards for teachers,2011, presented on Teacher’s Day

It is a matter of great pride for Bal Bharati Public School,GRH Marg that its principal L V Sehgal was conferred with the National Award for Teachers by President Pranab Mukherjee.

It is a matter of great pride for Bal Bharati Public School,GRH Marg that its principal L V Sehgal was conferred with the National Award for Teachers by President Pranab Mukherjee at a ceremony held at Vigyan Bhavan on September 5.

The National Award is annually bestowed upon illustrious educationists from all over the nation “to give public recognition for their meritorious achievements”. The Award includes a certificate of merit,a cash prize of Rs 25,000 and a silver medal.

The award was conferred upon Sehgal honouring his remarkable contributions in the field of education. He “has been conspicuously successful in creating a powerful impulse for development and progress”. Sehgal consistently encourages programmes,projects and schemes that nurture learners,give them wings to soar while keeping their feet firmly rooted in the country’s rich and varied culture,values and heritage. He zealously ensures that “links with the local community” are strengthened. Social and environmental issues are priority for him and he believes that young learners should grow up to be responsible world citizens.

Sehgal’s services in the field of education are,widely acknowledged. He is,presently,the Chairperson of the National Progressive Schools’ Conference besides being a member of three CBSE Committees — Curriculum,Examinations and Sports.

The Bal Bharati fraternity cherishes this moment of glory and hopes that many more laurels and accolades would follow. Accepting the award,Sehgal said “This is the time when teachers and parents should communicate with each other in a constructive way so that they can create an environment of mutual trust and confidence and convey positive feelings to the child in order to help us create a congenial environment for education in our institutions”.

National honour for the principal of Delhi Public School,RK Puram

Dr D R Saini,principal of Delhi Public School,R K Puram,New Delhi,one of the most reputed educational institutions in the country and abroad,has been selected for the National Award for Teachers,2011. The award was conferred on him by President Pranab Mukherjee at Vigyan Bhavan.

Dr Saini,one of the stalwarts of DPS Community,has 33 years of dedicated service in the field of education,sports and culture,and has held the responsibility of vice-principal of this great institution for 14 years and has been the principal since August 2009. Dr Saini is the recipient of 15 prestigious awards for his dedicated service towards education and sports.

His professional experience as an educationist and sportsperson,has been reinforced through international exposure,regular and formalised training in the UK,the USA,Japan,Canada,France,Holland,Switzerland,Australia and China. This has helped him in practical orientation and inculcated a sound knowledge of the latest technology in education as well as in administrative and managerial functions; leading to a high level of professional competence along with conceptual,administrative and leadership skills. He is a member of 27 advisory boards of various institutions and organisations. He has also been a member of the Ethics Committee of the All India Institute of Medical Science; Organising Committee of the Commonwealth Games 2010; Working Group on Sports and Physical Education under the Department of Sports,Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports in the context of the formulation of the Twelfth Five Year Plan (2012-17),Planning Commission,Government of India; Olympic Values Education Programme,International Olympic Committee,Switzerland; Sport Scientific Board Olympic Council of Asia,Kuwait. Dr Saini is also president of Delhi Basketball Association and vice-chairman of the Bowling Federation of India.

Springdales School,Pusa Road, celebrates 57th anniversary

Springdales School,Pusa Road,celebrated its 57th anniversary on September . It commemorates the birthday of Shri Yudhishtir Kumar,founder of Springdales Education Society. A cake was cut on the occasion by Dr Rajni Kumar,Chairperson,Springdales Education Society along with school principal Ameeta Mulla Wattal and the students whose birthdays fall on the same day.

This was followed by a fashion show,dance performances and a medley of yesteryear songs performed by students of the middle school. The senior school students paid a tribute to cine legends such as Rajesh Khanna,Shammi Kapoor and Dev Anand in their presentation. The school choir and the school band also enthralled the audience with their performances.

Saha Young Scientists Experimental Projects contest held

Springdales School,Dhaula Kuan,held the 8th Dr A K Saha Young Scientists Experimental Projects Inter-School Contest on August 9. The project was initiated by two former students – Dr Abhijit Saha and Dr Prasenjit Saha — in the memory of their late father Dr A K Saha,former Scientist at National Physical Laboratory,New Delhi.

This annual venture enables the development of a scientific attitude towards experimentation and a spirit of curiosity and objectivity among budding scientists. This year,three events were held for different levels of students — model-making,science quiz and the most challenging investigatory projects competition. It consisted of a preliminary round where 16 schools submitted an abstract on a research project undertaken by them,of which 11 projects were selected for presentation.

These competitive entries submitted as power-point presentations were judged by Dr Puneet Chandna,Biophysicist and Managing Director,AceProbe Technologies,Dr N C Chandra,Director,Biochemistry,AIIMS,and Dr Abhijit Sarkar,Research Scientist,IUAC. The function was presided over by Anuj Sinha,former Director of Vigyan Prasar,who in his talk emphasised a need for innovation and research in the field of science. Both judges and audiences asked several questions from the participating teams.

Springdales School,Dhaula Kuan,with the topic “Malaria – an Enigma” won the Indian Science Congress Trophy for Innovation in science. The overall winners of the competition were Springdales School,Pusa Road. Bluebells International won the runners-up trophy.

Maharashtra Day celebrated at Maxfort School,Rohini

When we talk of Maharashtra what immediately comes to mind are Lord Ganesha,lavani,nath,bhel puri,and Mumbai. We at Maxfort talked about all this as we love to celebrate the diversity of India. The students and teachers came wearing the traditional attire of Maharashtra. Students of Grade III and IV performed Ganesh Stuti. And to also bring in Mumbai style,they took part in a fashion show on “Bollywood now and then’’. The taste buds also relished Maharashtran style as the cuisine — vada pav,pav bhaji and bhel puri— were presented. The joie de vivre could be felt everywhere. Parents couldn’t resist the foot-tapping music and joined the children while they danced to melodious,rhythmic beats of Maharashtran music and Bollywood numbers. Maxfort was brimming with activities the entire day.

Bal Bharati,Pitampura celebrates Independence Day

To pay homage to the martyrs of our great nation who laid down their lives for their countrymen,Bal Bharati Public School,Pitampura,celebrated the 66th Independence Day with much vigor.

IPS Officer B S Jaiswal graced the occasion as the chief guest. The vibrant colours of unity,integrity,and festivity were evident in the cultural programme that followed the auspicious lighting of the lamp.

The students of the primary department put up a ballad on the theme of national integration and the tiny tots of the Montessori wing mesmerised the audience with their dance performances.

The function included absolutely enthralling performances by the students of senior and senior secondary levels. Love for the Motherland was expressed through several patriotic songs and dances. The meritorious students were also felicitated in a prize-distribution ceremony. The chief guest addressed the gathering,inspiring them with ennobling thoughts.
