The English department of the Bal Bharati Public School,Pitampura,staged the annual English play Murder in a Nunnery in the school auditorium on December 17 and 18.

The English department of the Bal Bharati Public School,Pitampura,staged the annual English play Murder in a Nunnery (an adaptation) in the school auditorium on December 17 and 18. The play was a murder mystery with the intercurrence of romance and comedy running through it. While there were corpses falling out of the cupboards,there were also detectives investigating the curious case of the cockroach. The sound and the light effects gave the play a whole new character. The sets included a beautifully crafted statue of Jesus Christ made by the Art department of the school. Every characters performance depicted sincere efforts of the students. The plot managed to keep the mystery and suspense of the murder till the end. The play ended with the promise of a new mystery. The play proved to be a success during both of its shows. It was applauded by all,including principal Meenu Goswami.
The Indian School celebrates its annual day
Pomp and splendour accorded honour to the theme of the year,The Silk Route,at the annual day celebrations on December 10 and 11. Students from Class I to XI assembled a resplendent pageant of art,music,dance and drama in culmination of the year-long journey of discovery. No effort was spared and the result spoke for itself. Tableaux dotted the school’s front lawns. They recreated settings in which the diverse cultures and religions found themselves on the great route that was mans earliest success at connecting the distant ends of the world. Pretty props with snap plays and dances or songs at individual tableaux greatly enthused the parents as they entered the school compound. The skating rink became the venue of an outdoor orchestra. The school band played a medley of pieces from the silk route. Enchanting Arabic tunes captivated the passing listeners who stopped to sit and savour the experience. In fact,chairs had to be set up in the rink to convenience numerous parents who continued to stand for long enraptured by the heady melody! Then followed the hour-long presentation of a dance-drama,The Travels of Marco Polo. The tale of the great medieval explorer across the continents,surmounting enormous hardships,came alive in costume,drama and dance. Important events from the tale strung were strung together with dances from diverse places that Marco crossed as he made his way. Finally Marco was shown presenting himself at the court of Kublai Khan and all its celebrated splendour. The chief guest for the occasion was Vineet Joshi,chairman,CBSE. A special surprise was the final bow on the school stage by Class XII students as they got ready to leave their beloved school.
Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan celebrates Christmas
Bharatiya Vidya Bhavans Mehta Vidyalaya held its annual Christmas day celebration on Friday,December 23. The spectacular event commenced with the rendering of the Sarva Dharma Prayer,following which Sarthak Chaudhary of Class IX painted a vivid picture of the history of Christmas and its modern interpretations; toddlers of the KG department danced to carols while Class IV students regaled the audience with a vocal-visual fiesta on the theme,Yesu ka Janam. The hallmark of the event was the musical performance by the students of Class IX and X as part of the CCE programme,along with the school choir. The musical sequence was woven together by Gayatri S of Class XI who narrated the chronological events of Jesus Christ’s birth. The assembly concluded with Principal Dr Anju Tandon and the Vice Principal,Mr Rajan Dhingra,addressing the students. Both the Principal and the Vice Principal talked about the values preached by Jesus and the need to imbibe them in our lives. It was a Merry Christmas indeed!
Inter-school Hindi debate competition at DPS RK Puram
An inter-school Hindi debate competition was held on December 22,2011. It was hosted by Lions Club. As many as18 schools participated in the competition. Eminent professors figured as the chief guests and judges of the event. Avichal Bhatnagar of Class XI (V) and Arjun Kumar of Class X (M) participated in the event. Avichal bagged the prize of the second best speaker,for which he has been awarded with a trophy and Rs 3,000 in cash. The of the school organised a poster making competition. Young students made beautiful posters on human values like love,patriotism,tolerance,etc,to inculcate these values among students and strengthen value-based culture in the country. Principal S Mukhija encouraged the students to rekindle moral values in the society and appreciated the efforts of the children.
Founders Day celebrations at Tagore International School
Tagore International School,Vasant Vihar,celebrated its Founder’s Day on December 3 and 4,2011. Students of Classes VI to XII presented a Musical play based on the popular folk tale Robin Hood: A Brush With the Beatles. The play was designed and directed by renowned theatre personality Stephen Marazzi. The chief guest on the first day of the celebrations was Graham Ranger,director of The British School New Delhi. The programme commenced with the ceremonial lighting of the lamp by chief guest and principal Madhulika Sen,followed by an audio-visual presentation of the school’s annual report by the head boy and head girl of the school. The presentation highlighted the school’s achievements in the field of academics at the international,national,intra and inter-school levels during 2010-2011. Following it was a welcome speech by the Principal,wherein she spoke of how education is not merely about lessons in textbooks but lessons in life which makes one capable of interpreting things appropriately. The chief guest,highly impressed with the school’s achievements at all levels,spoke about the commonality in the goals of schools all over the globe. He expressed his eagerness to know how Robin Hood and The Beatles were amalgamated and looked forward to the Musical.
