Satish Upadhyay comes to O P Sharma’s defence

He further alleged that Lamba made the public issue of night shelters a personal one by accusing Sharma’s family of running shops involved in illegal business.

“It was this statement that Sharma was responding to. He just reiterated that he knows she makes rounds at night. This was quoted out of context and fed to the media,” said Upadhyay.
However, he stated that if any MLA — irrespective of which party — made derogatory comments against women, it would be unacceptable and should be condemned.

Upadhyay also raised questions over the conduct of Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal.

“…If we compare this (Sharma’s statement) with what their MLA Somnath Bharti did to his wife, where does AAP stand on moral ground? He let loose a dog on his expecting wife. Yet he is still in the party and sits in the House talking about respect for women. Why did Kejriwal not take any action when there is a case against Bharti,” said Upadhyay.

He further accused the AAP of being a party that thrives on hypocrisy. Commenting on Sharma’s suspension, Upadhyay said the AAP has murdered democracy and the BJP would continue its protest against the party’s high-handedness. “They can’t bear even three MLAs in opposition. This is how autocratic AAP is,” said Upadhyay.

Meanwhile, leader of opposition Vijender Gupta said the BJP MLAs will soon call upon Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh to apprise him of the gross violation of rules in the Delhi Assembly.
