Over 2,000 supporters, hundreds of Congress flags, over 100 cops trailing the procession and hours of traffic disruption on Mehrauli-Badarpur Road — the chaotic scene was actually a show of strength by Sajjan Kumar as his brother Ramesh Kumar filed his nomination on Saturday.

The procession only went on to prove that the party still depends on Sajjan (despite cancelling his ticket),especially when it comes to pulling votes in the South Delhi constituency.

Around 11 am,scattered activity started in front of the Deputy Commissioner’s Office at Said-Ul-Ajaib,with supporters gathering in small numbers.

Senior Congress leader Oscar Fernandes was seen roaming on the road, but he soon left for Khanpur, the starting point of the Kumar brothers’ procession. Soon a big crowd gathered at Khanpur T-Point. Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit made an appearance to show her support for Ramesh. Praising the brothers, she said: “Sajjanji and Rameshji have worked very hard over the years. Please vote for Rameshji. Making him win is like making me win.” Dikshit, however, did not accompany the procession to the DC’s office.

Buta Singh’s son and Deoli MLA Arvinder Singh Lovely and Kalkaji MLA Subhash Chopra were also present.

Flashing a victory sign,Ramesh said,“I have been handling Sajjanji’s campaign ever since he was first elected to the Lok Sabha in 1980. I have worked hard for the area. After I get elected, development here will go up by four times,” he said.
