One of the persons allegedly involved in the shootout at South Delhi’s Safdarjung Enclave area managed to escape from police custody

One of the persons allegedly involved in the shootout at South Delhi’s Safdarjung Enclave area managed to escape from police custody on Thursday morning.

The accused,Ajit, reportedly escaped from Safdarjung Hospital, where he was admitted late on Wednesday night.

Ajit was admitted to the hospital after his health reportedly deteriorated during questioning.

Two persons,Mohammad Hasimuddin (24) and Rohit (23),were injured when an altercation between the two escalated into a shootout at Safdarjung Enclave’s A1 Block in Raj Nagar on Wednesday. Police arrested five persons — Ajit,Rohit,Surender,Monty Prajapati and Hasimuddin — on charges of attempted murder.

Police said Ajit was taken to the hospital when he complained that he wasn’t feeling well. Though police initially thought he was just pretending, they rushed him to the hospital after he lost consciousness.

“The doctors admitted him in ward number 12. However, around 6 am,he escaped by saying he was going to the washroom,” said a police officer. The police have registered a separate case against Ajit for escaping. The officer said teams have been despatched to re-arrest Ajit. “We are conducting raids on all his hangouts and questioning his family members,” he added.

Besides this, police are searching for three youths who absconded after the incident. Efforts are also on to recover the pistol used in the shootout.
