Accusing the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of cheating the people of the Capital, former Delhi Chief Minister and the Aam Aadmi Party’s Kalkaji MLA Atishi on Thursday accused her successor Rekha Gupta of “breaking her promise” of giving Rs 2,500 to women per month.
Prior to the first meeting of the Cabinet on Thursday, Atishi had urged the new BJP government to approve the scheme as promised not only by the party but by Prime Minister Narendra Modi during campaigning for the Delhi Assembly elections.
“The BJP government in Delhi has started cheating the people of Delhi from the very first day. Before the elections, PM Modi and all BJP leaders had promised that in the first Cabinet meeting itself, they would pass a scheme to give Rs 2,500 per month to every woman in Delhi,” Atishi said.
“But today at 7 pm, the first Cabinet meeting was held. The women of Delhi were waiting for the Rs 2,500 per month scheme to be passed.”
“But no decision was taken on this. It is sad that a woman Chief Minister broke her promise to women on the very first day,” she added.
Prior to the meeting, Atishi had said that the women of Delhi were watching and expected the BJP to honour its word.
She also extended her congratulations to the new chief minister.
“I extend my congratulations to Rekha Gupta and her entire Cabinet on their swearing-in. Delhi has got its fourth woman Chief Minister, which is a matter of pride for the women of this city. I hope that, as a woman CM, Rekha Gupta will fulfil the promises made by the BJP to the women of Delhi,” she said.
