A 30-year-old driver died in a freak accident at a DTC depot in south west Delhi’s Dwarka area after being run over by a driverless bus on Sunday. The driver, identified as contractual DTC employee Bhoj Singh, was run over by the stationary bus with its engine on, which was undergoing repair at the depot in Sector 2, Dwarka. The bus started moving all of a sudden and ran over Singh before hitting a building in the depot around 11 AM, police said.

He was rushed to Maharaja Agrasen Hospital where doctors declared him brought dead. A case has been lodged and investigation is on, said a senior police officer. Another bus which was undergoing repair with its engine on similarly moved and hit the building at the depot in a similar manner but no one was injured.

Colleagues of the deceased driver staged a protest at the depot alleging negligence behind his death. They claimed that there were inadequate safety measures and Singh died while trying to stop the driverless bus as he was sandwiched between the vehicle and the wall of the building which it rammed into. They also demanded compensation for the family of the deceased.
