Amid the ongoing row over the Centre’s Ordinance to create a National Capital Civil Service Authority empowered to recommend transfers and postings of all Group A and DANICS officers, six BJP MPs Sunday said it was done to “save Delhi’s administrative system from being paralysed”.

Addressing a joint press conference, BJP MPs from Delhi Manoj Tiwari, Dr Harsh Vardhan, Meenakshi Lekhi, Parvesh Verma, Ramesh Bidhuri and Hans Raj Hans took a dig at the AAP and Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal.

Lekhi alleged, “The administrative and legal status of Delhi makes it a union territory, but Kejriwal is not ready to accept it due to his dictatorial attitude. A city cannot turn into a state. There is no special law regarding services, so they gave this right to the state. The Centre has the right to bring in a necessary Ordinance, but Kejriwal is disputing it because he fears exposure of his corruption.”
Harsh Vardhan claimed: “I worked in the Delhi government for 20 years and saw four different CMs and multiple LGs. But I never saw the type of politics that is happening today under the Kejriwal government.”

The leaders also promised the people of Delhi “independence” from the AAP and its politics very soon.

Pointing to Kejriwal’s appeal for opposition unity, Tiwari alleged, “There was a time when he used to chart out a list of these leaders — Sharad Pawar, Nitish Kumar, P Chidambaram — and call them corrupt. Today, he is hugging Nitish ji… Kejriwal’s priority is not to eliminate corruption, but to defeat PM Narendra Modi and Amit Shah.”

AAP dismissed the BJP’s allegations as baseless. “During the tenure of the Sheila Dikshit government, the CM possessed complete authority over tr-ansfer-posting powers. However, immediately after the AAP assumed power in 2015, the Modi government, via a notification, shamelessly snatched this rightful authority from the elected government,” it said in a statement.

“It’s become evident that BJP is resorting to spreading falsehoods in a desperate attempt to deceive the public. It is crucial to note this move was an encroachment upon principles of democracy and governance,” it added.

Meanwhile, several senior leaders from the state BJP, including party president Virendra Sachdeva, held jan chetna sabhas across 12 constituencies. Addressing one such sabha in Kirari, Leader of Opposition in Delhi Assembly Ramvir Singh Bidhuri claimed, “Class 12 and 10 results have come down by 60%, buses are catching fire every day, hospitals are in a poor state, but the AAP and Kerjiwal are only busy in corruption and politics.”
