Daylight attack: Five masked men rob Gurgaon family at gunpoint In a shocking daylight robbery, six members of a family were locked up inside their house for nearly half-an-hour while five armed robbers ransacked the house and looted Rs 1.5 lakh in cash and some jewellery in the busy, upscale locality of Sector-15 on Sunday. According to the police, the incident took place at 11 am,after 60-year-old Rajendra Kumar Kalra left his home for work. One of his sons saw two men standing outside the house and a Hyundai Santro parked close by. His mother, two brothers, sister and her one-year-old son were inside. Minutes later, five armed and masked men, aged 20-25 years, barged in. They pointed a countrymade pistol at Kalras wife,Parveen, and pushed her into a room and ordered the other members to follow. Afraid that the continuos barks of the dog would draw the neighbours attention, the robbers told them to tie it up or they would kill it. I begged them to spare our lives and handed over whatever gold jewellery I was wearing, said Parveen. She said that the robbers had taken her daughters jewellery as well. They also robbed Rs 1.5 lakh in cash. They asked the family for details of where their cash and jewellery were kept. When they said that they did not have any,the robbers locked them up inside the bathroom and took away their cellphone batteries so that they could not make calls, said DCP (West) Ved Prakash. They kept screaming for help, but no one heard them since the neighbours were not home. At 12 pm,they managed to break open the bathroom door and found the house ransacked. They called up Kalra to inform him about the incident and then called up the police. Giving a description of the robbers, the family members said that they did not call each other by name. All of them were armed with countrymade pistols and knives, said Sachin,Kalras son. On weekdays,I stay alone at home. It is surprising that such an incident occurred on a Sunday when all my children were home, said Parveen. The Kalras were preparing to leave for Tauru since their business was not doing too well. They had rented the house one-and-a-half years ago. Meanwhile, the Gurgaon police have lodged an FIR at the Civil Lines police station under various sections of the Arms Act and sections of the IPC for robbery and illegal confinement.
