‘Reckless claims of corruption against judiciary’: Delhi HC slaps lawyer with contempt proceedings

It listed the matter for further proceedings before the roster bench for contempt proceedings. 

Justice Sharma also directed the lawyer to appear in-person before the roster bench on the next date of hearing, November 19.

On December 20, 2023, the advocate had tendered an unconditional apology before the court for making allegations against judicial officers and stated that he shall never do so in future, 

But in January 2024, he had written an e-mail allegedly “containing libellous content along with other scandalous, contumacious and contemptuous allegations…”

The lawyer, who is involved in a civil suit dispute, had accused the judiciary of corruption.

Taking note of Vedant’s repeated “reckless allegations of corruption against the judiciary”, the court held that his remarks are “contemptuous, contumacious and scandalous in nature” and “the same tantamount to scandalising and lowering the authority of Court. It further tends to interfere with judicial proceedings and administration of justice.”
