The first monsoon showers in the city cooled the mercury,pushing it six notches below normal at 30.3 degrees Celsius on Saturday. An India Meteorological Department official declared the advent of monsoon in Delhi,predicting light to moderate rainfall over the next two to three days. There could also be a few spells of heavy rain,the weatherman said. The monsoons arrival in Delhi has been declared. Though there was squall on Friday,no high-speed winds are expected in the coming days, said R C Vashishtha of Regional Meteorological Centre,IMD. The Safdurjung Met station recorded 40.1 mm of rainfall on Friday night. By 8.30 am on Saturday,the gauge at the Palam station had recorded 34 mm rainfall. The Ridge station recorded the maximum rainfall (50.4 mm) by Saturday morning. The minimum temperature on Saturday was 23.2 degrees Celsius. Noida recorded 10 mm of rainfall. Indirapuram recorded 7mm of rainfall.
