Railways fined after rats on train damage passenger’s bags

Consumer Disputes Redressal Forum has ordered Indian Railways to pay Rs 15,000 compensation to a passenger.

The New Delhi Consumer Disputes Redressal Forum has ordered Indian Railways to pay Rs 15,000 compensation to a passenger, whose bags were damaged by rats onboard. The compensation was awarded to retired serviceman R K Bansal.

“It happened due to lack of proper maintenance of the compartment by loco shed staff, where bogies are kept for cleaning and maintenance…,” the forum said.

The forum also held the divisional railway manager, Northern Railways, responsible for the damage. “The DRM, Northern Railways, is held responsible due to lack of proper maintenance at local shed or supervision at big junction…,” the forum said.
