Pune doc held for rape on pretext of marriage

In her statement to police,the victim said she met the accused when she went to Pune some years ago to pursue higher studies in medicine. “They had completed their MBBS from a Pune-based medical college together. After some months,they exchanged their numbers and started talking on phone. On several occasions,they would meet in coffee shops. Later,they became good friends. He also proposed marriage to her,” a senior police officer said.

The victim slowly fell in love with Faheem and accepted his proposal. Faheem then established physical relations with her,promising that they would get married after their studies were over. He also promised to visit her in Delhi soon.

“However,after completing their studies,Faheem decided to settle down in Pune and the woman returned to her home in Delhi. It was then that the accused started avoiding her. Whenever she brought up the topic of marriage,he would digress from the discussion,” the officer added.

Sometime later,Faheem completely changed his stand and refused to marry the victim. She was in a state of shock and went into depression. Later,she narrated the incident to her parents who approached the local police.

With help of Pune police,a team of investigators from South Delhi raided the house of the accused in Pune. He was arrested from his residence and brought to the capital Delhi on Monday.
